Train from Rome to Naples, Day trip

Ciao, Welcome to Naples, Italy.
We started our morning early to catch one of the first trains to Naples. If you want a short day trip from Rome, this is the perfect way to see another city in this beautiful country.
Naples is located about an hour train ride from Rome. We took the  Italia train. The earlier you book the cheaper your tickets will be, so plan in advance. The trains are nice, clean and give you a chance to see parts of Italy you would maybe not see from your car.

To be completely honest I did not know what to expect when arriving  in Naples, Ive heard different reviews. Some people love Naples and some say Do Not Go, you will get scammed and it's scary.
And I'm sure that does happen.
We had a wonderful experience in this old historic city.
Now, I will be honest at first glance Naples is rugged, loud, gritty, and over crowded. You will see narrow alleys, motorcycles and and an old city with its hustle and bustle around ever corner.  Once you get past that (and not get hit by a vespa)
the city does have charm and an incredible street food scene. This blog will have in-site on where we stayed, what we saw and how we ate our heart out in NAPLES!
Where to Stay
Once you arrive to Naples, make sure to have mapped out your hotel, or places you'll like to see. We walked to our B&B from the train station. Be aware of overpaid taxis. We were warned by our B&B host.
Luckily it was only a 20 min walk from the train station.
Once arriving to our B&B Atmosphere Del Centro Storico, we were greeted by our lovely host. Our room had an old world charm, and felt like we were staying at a family members home. She gave us a map with all the local places to see and get great pizza.

Where to Eat
As you can imagine Naples has no shortage of pizzerias. First stop Mazz Bar- is a  restaurant with an outside area, that sit in an-arched  alley where the walls are covered with graffiti and spray paint. The alley is narrow with motorcycles cruising by. You can also get a seat next to Pulcinella, an Italian classical character that may bring you good luck.
We enjoyed our pizza here outside under a canopy of art and graffiti.
I ordered the original Margherita Pizza (tomato sauce, mozzarella and EVO and basil) a simple pizza with incredible taste. Husband ordered Piccerella Pizza tomato sauce, mozzarella, sweet salami, cooked ham, mushrooms, olives and evo.

You can see Piccerella in the background
Looking for Luck?
What makes Mazz restaurant worth a stop?
You can get a seat next to Pulcinella.
Pulcinella is a classical character taken from an early form of theatre and later puppetry and is a part of Neopolitan culture, symbolising the voice of the people. Visit the bronze statue in Via dei Tribunali in the old historic centre and rub the nose for good luck.
It's always worth a try!
If you are short on time and want to see a church I highly recommend  Chiesa del Gesu Nuevo, Church of the New Jesus. A beautiful church with high ceilings and beautifully decorated marble mosaic floors.
Once you enter the church you are engulfed in beauty. We actually stayed here for awhile and enjoyed all the details of the ceiling, and alters.

With all the walking and dogging motorcycles we got a little thirsty. Lemoncello is served right on the streets in Naples, limoncello is an Italian liquor mainly produced in the South of Italy. It’s the second most popular liqueur in Italy and is traditionally served as an after dinner drink.
Salute!

We also needed well, wanted a little snack. Naples is know for its street food. And served perfectly to continue walking around the city.
Here are some of our favorite.
At Stiamo Friggitori we tried deep fried mozzarella ballsdeep fried crab legs and limonciotto- deep fried rice ball with lemon and saffron.
My mouth is watering writing this!

That evening we had dinner with friends at Sannino Pizzeria. Since they are chefs we let them order for the table. We started dinner with  fresh Mozzarella and assorted meats.

Panzerotti, deep fried pizza with meat and cheese.
Eggplant and Margherita pizzas were ordered. Eggplant was our favorite.
Campania-Neapolitan style noodles and potatoes with smokes mozzarella. My new favorite dish.
Looking for a sweet treat?
While walking around we stopped into Carraturo Vittorio pastry shop. They have been around since 1955. We had to try their Sfoglistella or little leaves. A flaky pastry in a clam like shape. Filled with a mixture of ricotta, milk, candied eggs and sugar. Another must try is the Babà. The main feature is the softness which allows the alcoholic syrup flavored with rum. The rum had a good kick to it. The Babà was my favorite.

Did you even go to Italy if you did not try GELATO? We ended both evenings getting two scoops of authentic gelato. We enjoyed IL Gelato bonus for us it was located next to our B&B.

The streets of Naples-

Currently the city streets are filled with blue and white streamers hanging from streets, decorated in restaurants and strung through the small alleys. It's a festive time for Naples, celebrating the probable victory of the third Scudetto since the Maradona era.

On our last day in Naples we decided to try Lantiga Pizzeria da Michelle. We happened to go at opening 11:00 and lucky for us there was no line. There usually is an hour plus wait. You will be given numbers to ensure your place in line. Since we went so early we were able to sit inside and were served one of the first pizzas of the day.

Like most restaurants in Rome you
will be charged a 1.00 Euro fee for sitting inside.

What makes this place so special?
Its considered the best rated pizza in the world.  What did we order?
Half Margherita & Half Marinara pizza- simple ingredients.
Thin crust, tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil and evo. Pizza is cooked on a traditional wood fire oven.
Da Michelle has been opened since 1870, and is still make some of the best pizza in Naples.
The movie Eat-Pray Love was filmed here with Julia Roberts.
After we ate our pizza we did one last walk around the city,
before our return to Rome.

Until next time Naples,
Ciao❤️🍕
