Follow us along as we check into our luxury B&B, enjoy a spritz among ruins, and eat a delicious homemade meal in a cave.
We started our weekend in Matera checking into our B&B. Once we arrived we knew we were in for a treat. Our B&B La Dimoria di Matello, was everything the website promised. Simple, clean boutique with a luxury feel. Oh and did I mention our room was inside a cave! Our suite had a little sitting area right off of our room to enjoy the scenic morning, evening views. La Dimoria di Matello provided candles for us to light in the evening. Candles highlighted the unique cave like setting our room had. In the morning a typical Italian breakfast was served in a beautiful presentation of pastries, fruit, meats, and cheese along with fresh orange juice and of course an espresso. We truly enjoyed our stay at this B&B.
From Rome we drove 5 hours by car to explore this ancient town.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. Matera is one of the oldest cities in the world. The earliest inhabitants dates back to the Stone and Bronze Age.

It is really hard to describe this ancient city. We have never seen anything like it. It's an old city with so much charm and history. You will see unique art, ancient cave dwelling, boutiques, and beautiful views of the city with an old historical feeling.
After we checked into our hotel we ventured off to see more of this incredibly unique city.

After all that walking we stopped into Altereno Cafe for an aperitif and a aperol spritz. My new favorite since moving to Italy.
⭐️Tip, head to the back patio for a wonderful view of Matera.
Of course another Spritz! After all that walking we got thirsty again!
Make sure to wear comfortable shoes. Matera is full of stairs.
After exploring we stopped into U` Cidder for dinner. We were warmly welcomed. The atmosphere is cozy and feels like home. We sat in a little arch that had all the feels. We ordered a few dishes to share. I think the menu changes daily. We were offered a small selection of home cooked meals. What did we order? Meatballs, lasagna, artichokes, potatoes and fresh warm bread. Everything was delicious and the value was incredible.
If you are in Matera stop in and try a traditional dish.
Following dinner we were given a Matera magnet from the owner. I was so touched by the warm gesture.
After dinner we took one last stroll around the city. We were treated to a cotton candy lit sunset. We ended our night with a glass of wine on our terrace and enjoyed the magical pink and purple sky.
If Matera is not on your radar of places to visit while in Italy, I highly recommend it. The city has AMAZING views, one of a kind architecture, fascinating history
and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
