Day trip to Porto Venere, Italy

If you have been following us for a while you know we love a day trip outside of the city. Rome is amazing, but something magical always amazes me in these smaller towns. Porto Venere was no exception. A charming town with lots of  history and delicious food. And did I mention it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 1997 Porto Venere with the islands Palmaria, Tito, Tinetto and the Cinque Terre were included among the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We started our morning with a 4 and a half hour drive to the seaside town of La Spezia. From there we were off to explore Porto Venere.

Just note that the roads are small and narrow. If you are not an experienced driver in Italy, train may be your best option.

San Pietro, a gothic Roman Catholic church sits cliffside facing the golf of poets. You are able to walk the grounds of the church. The views are incredible.

.A picture perfect town to stroll the quaint streets.

We dined at -Trattoria La Marina
So far living in Italy for 2 years, this has been my favorite Lasagna dish. We shared fried calamari and muscles. Oh.... and a Spritz! Everything was delicious.

                                Cheers from Porto Venere, Italy
