Day trip to Helsinki from Tallinn

From Tallinn Estonia, Finland is a quick two hour boat ride across the Gulf of Finland. We hopped on the Tallink ferry boat which takes you across to Finland.
Port of Tallinn
When you first depart from the Helsinki Boat Terminal you can take a short ride to center city. Once in center city you will be able to walk or take a short tram ride to most places in this article.

Helsinki Card was purchased on our Ferry over to Finland.
This little card gets you unlimited public transportation and entrance into many museums and even the boat ferries that access the islands surrounding Helsinki.
-Where to Stay in Finland-
We booked a room at the Scandic Park Helsinki
We decided to stay here because of its closeness to the city and its accessibility to public transportation. The rooms were clean and perfect for a one night stay. The Scandic Park also offers a really good breakfast buffet
Senate Square

The Senate Square and its surroundings form a unique and cohesive example of Neoclassical architecture. The square is dominated by four buildings designed by Carl Ludvig Engel (1778-1840): Helsinki Cathedral, the Government Palace, the main building of the University of Helsinki and the National Library of Finland. A statue of Alexander II (1894) stands in the middle of the Senate Square.

Market Square
Located at the Southern Harbor at the end of the Esplanade Park. The Market Square is Helsinki's most International and famous Market.
You can find places to eat, and purchase Finnish goods. Here you will find many stalls for shopping.

-Old Market Hall-
Across from the Market Square you will find the Old Market Hall. Old Market Hall is a brick Building dating back to 1889.
There are many choices of unique foods. You can even have a delicious lunch.

Pompier for Lunch
I did not do much research on places to have lunch in Helsinki. We ended up eating at a delicious restaurant named Pompeir. I loved their Salmon Soup. Its worth the trip over just for the soup

Cafe Recatta
I highly recommend Cafe Recatta If you love warm cinnamon buns and delicious hot chocolate, this is the perfect place to stop.
You can also purchase sausage to grill on the outdoor fire. A real unique experience in Finland.

Design Museum

If you have a chance and the time visit the Design Museum.
A nice museum that takes you through design history from glassware to fashion.

Finnish Sauna
We ended our trip to Finland with a Traditional Finnish Sauna at Loyly
There are three different Saunas that are all heated with wood. There is a continuous heated sauna, a once heated sauna, (only heated in the morning) and a traditional smoke sauna. Between the sauna sessions, there is a fireplace room to relax in. You can also take a dip in the sea. It's extremely cold in Autumn. Just take a deep breath and enjoy the rush!

-Make sure to make a reservation and bring swimsuits and water shoes-

We ended our time at Löyly at their onsite restaurant
located on the beautiful waterfront. You will have access to their terrace which is the largest terrace at sea level. A lovely restaurant with a cozy vibe.
What to order?
I ordered the Jasper's salmon soup- rainbow trout with salmon.
Husband ordered the beef patty burger with bacon, cheese, caramelize onion and aioli sauce.
( Both were delicious)
We also added a refreshing glass of Champagne.

Cheers to a fantastic time in Finland.

We ended our day just in time to enjoy the gorgeous sunset at the Helsinki Port, before we made our way back to Tallinn.
