Paide, Estonia

Off the Beaten path in Estonia took us to Paide. This little city is located in the heart of Estonia. If you are in Tartu make sure you stop by its not too far. We were pleasantly surprised how much history is packed into this little town.
We visited the Paide Castle, Water Gate and Gunpowder Tower. In its heydays Paide Fortress was surrounded by moats that received their water from the Pärnu river. Now you can visit Wittgenstein Time Center a well preserved museum.
The museum takes you through a time machine of the history of Estonia. We also took a little time enjoy lunch inside the museum's in house restaurant.

Here are some pictures from our time in Paide, Estonia.

Inside the Museum.
This hallway lead us to the elevator which takes you to all the different floors of the museum.
We took it straight up to the top for lunch and views.
Next stop is an Estonian lunch on the 8th floor.

Walked down to the bar to order us a beer.
The panoramic views from the top are incredible.

I'm sure you are wondering what an Estonian dish looks like. To be honest this is not a good example. Even though the food does not look all that appetizing it was actually good.

What did we order?

Republic of Estonia-

Grilled pork with garlic

Crispy roasted potatoes

Mustard sauce

Re-Independence

French fries

Small sausage (more like hotdog weenies)

Fresh salad

Oh, and we added an Estonian made beer A. Le Coq

Cheers!

After lunch we stepped outside to explore the Fortress ruins.

Pictures of what the small town looks like. There are shops to purchase Estonian handmade items and coffee shops. The day we went most places were closed. (Sunday)
Looking forward to visiting again
