Zulu Coronation Ball



We were honored to be able to attend the 2019 Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club's Coronation Ball. 

Better known as the Zulu Ball.  

The Ball is held the Friday day before Mardi Gras at the 
New Orleans Convention Center. 
Thousands of people dressed in tuxedos and ball gowns arrive at the 
Convention Center to see the years Coronation.
 It's a beautiful event full of history and grace.
A new King and Queen were crowned. 
This years entertainment was Jeffery Osborne and R&B singer Monica. 
We Second Lined, enjoyed good food, cocktails and danced the night away.

Travel Tip:
If you get a chance go early to see the Coronation part of the evening I highly recommend it.
 It's  really beautiful to see.
Keep in mind the dress code, floor length gowns for ladies.
 Men must wear a black tux.
Bring a pair of Flats in your clutch, Its a long night. We did not leave until 4am. 
Drink Water!
Bring your phone, you will want to capture all the memories.

The Zulu organization is proud of its standing in the local community, but also takes pride in its national and international standing. The Zulu organization has been the subject of numerous television documentaries and newsprint and magazine articles. King Zulu 1949, Louis Armstrong, graced the pages of Time Magazine that year. Essence devoted a full half-hour segment of their weekly television series to Zulu’s impact on Carnival. Hordes of feature stories and photo essays have been done by international publications.
The Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club Inc., is the everyman club. The membership is composed of men from all walks of life–from laborers, City Mayor, City Councilmen, and State Legislators, to United States Congressman, educators, and men of other professions.
