There’s something really special about living in Rome and being able to spend a weekend collecting wine straight from the vineyards. Our wine collection at home was starting to look a little low, so we decided a wine tasting getaway to the Bolgheri region was exactly what we needed.
For the weekend, we stayed at Zi Martino Hotel. It’s nothing fancy, but honestly, that’s part of the charm. The hotel feels a little old school in the best way — clean rooms, a great onsite restaurant, and a really nice pool. It made the perfect home base for a relaxing weekend away.
We started our time in the area wandering through the town center of Bolgheri, which is every bit as charming as you’d imagine. Tiny alleyways, little shops, cozy restaurants — the kind of place where you want to slow down and just take it all in.
Our first winery stop was Le Vigne di Silvia — a small vineyard that completely won us over. We loved chatting with the owner, who was incredibly kind and so knowledgeable about wine. It felt personal and authentic, which made the tasting even more memorable. Of course, we couldn’t leave empty-handed and picked up a few bottles for our collection back home.
Next, we made a spontaneous stop at Villa Noviana after spotting it while driving. And wow — are we glad we did. The wine was delicious.
We made it back to the center of Bolgheri just in time for sunset and a dreamy aperitivo at Sovescio Bistro. Sitting there with a drink in hand as the sun went down over the town felt like one of those moments you wish you could bottle up forever. Honestly, I can’t think of a better way to end a day in the Bolgheri region.
Day two started at Michele Satta, and I’m still dreaming about the views from this winery. Somehow, we had the entire place to ourselves, which made the experience feel even more special.
And then came the funniest moment of the weekend...
While we were tasting, the wine pressure machine they were using to aerate our wine completely exploded all over my husband. He was absolutely drenched in red wine from head to toe. Thankfully, the wine was delicious, so honestly… we didn’t even mind. It just became one of those unforgettable travel moments that makes a trip even better.
To end our trip through the Italian countryside, we stopped into Grattamacco. Delicious wine, stunning vineyard. And so much history. We loved touring the cellar and learning all about the production of this incredible wine.
Between the incredible wine, beautiful vineyards, spontaneous stops, and unforgettable memories, our weekend in Bolgheri was everything we hoped it would be — and now our wine collection at home is happily restocked too.
Ciao Ciao from one of the most beautiful wine regions in Italy🇮🇹🍷
